This project was born out of many years of rich experience in inclusive work with youth – The Gift of Diversity introduces a new series of artistic activities that use music to break down barriers and connect different worlds.
Over the coming months, young people with autism and developmental disabilities will participate in artistic workshops alongside their peers without disabilities. With the support of experienced mentors, they will create together, develop musical skills, and build mutual understanding, trust, and empathy.
The project is supported by RYCO/Regional Youth Cooperation Office and implemented by the Music Opera Theatre Organization MOTO from Serbia, in partnership with akustiUm from Bosnia and Herzegovina – organizations that have been leading innovative approaches in the field.
Who is behind this initiative?
RYCO/Regional Youth Cooperation Office is an intergovernmental organization that stewards and promotes regional and intercultural cooperation of young people within and among Western Balkans societies. RYCO’s programs focus on creating opportunities for young people to engage in activities that build mutual understanding and reconciliation in the civic, social, educational, cultural, and sports domains. RYCO initiates and participates in policymaking and advocates for reform. It supports the development of a political and social environment that empowers and facilitates youth exchange.f inclusive arts and education for years.
Knowledge That Lasts
The focus of this year’s cycle is on music as a universal language of inclusion. As a result of the collective work, an Inclusive Music Toolkit will be created and published – a practical guide where we will share our experiences with those who wish to work in a similar way.
Final Event: Public Concert in Belgrade
The project will conclude with a public concert in Belgrade, where the audience will have the opportunity to hear authentic compositions created during the workshops – and experience music as a space of equality, collaboration, and creative freedom.
Project Goals:
• Empowering young people with developmental disabilities through shared musical creation
• Breaking stigma and prejudice through creative dialogue and joint performance
• Developing skills and empathy among all participants
• Expanding inclusive practices into the wider community through open resources and public events
